Sorry people for not posting much and i’ve been busy with work and attending the American Librarian Association 2015 in San Francisco at the Mascone Center. Anything print related is there, the latest books, equipment, tools, furniture, and above all children’s books. I got a whole bunch because of the discounted prices.
Got to network with publishers, illustrators, and editors. Ask them about my work, what they like and what they wanna see more of. Ask them about submission guidelines and they love getting post cards of illustrations. Easy for them to pick the illustrator they want, good idea!
Below are some of the books I highly recommend based on great illustrations, design, and story. These will be availiable for purchase, fall of this year. I couldn’t get them because the books were display copies. 😔
I’ve been illustrating for a long time now, mostly for news, magazines, comic books, and one children’s book. After visiting a peer group for portfolio review, i felt like i’m back to square one. They told me overall it’s good, BUT it can be better. I need illustrations of children, not just white kids every other ethnic group, no interior shots, not too many exterior shots, more story telling in your art, and lack of objects. That’s what i have to do because there’s a big children’s book event coming up, big names in publishing, agents, editors, and art directors are reviewing portfolios. A worthwhile opportunity i can’t miss!
Here’s the start with this spot illustration.
